Grant Writer/Development Assistant

Status: Part-time (20 hrs)

Job Summary
As primary grant writer for the organization, will be responsible for researching, developing and writing grant proposals and other written communication for foundations, corporations, state and federal entities. Construction of conceptually strong, persuasive, clear, and concise proposals per specific guidelines of various funding sources required. Candidate will assist as needed with all aspects of the fundraising program and provide necessary administrative support. Candidate will be primarily responsible for researching and helping to develop proposals for all fundraising. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the Development Director in administering the annual appeal, and outreach to individual major gift donors. The Candidate will assist as needed with all aspects of development activity and provide necessary administrative support.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with the Director of Development to research, develop, and assemble proposals for all fundraising activity.
. Gather and maintain necessary information for state, county and federal grant proposals
. Track outgoing and pending proposals.
• Aid in the completion required reports for funding sources
. Prepare correspondence and follow-up reports to funders, as necessary
• Maintain and update database on all potential foundation, corporate and individual funders
• Collect and maintain materials related to grants and research
• Support the Director of Development with outreach to individual donors
• Assist the Director of Development with the development and administration of the annual appeal.
• Develop and maintain fundraising database
• Assist as needed with other functions, including but not limited to: special events, publications, regular correspondence and other administrative duties

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.A. and 2+ yrs experience in the non-profit arena, preferably in development
. Excellent writing skills (fundraising or government grant proposal composition, public relations ideal)
. Ability to understand funding announcements, follow instructions for assembly and submittal and meet review and submission deadlines.
• Must be self-motivated and detail oriented
• Strong interpersonal skills; capable of working comfortably with a variety of individuals at all levels inside and outside of the organization
• Strong MS Office and Internet skills
