SPIN® USA

FAMILY SUPPORT & PARENT TRAINING

Social workers and other family and parent-support professionals use SPIN Video Home Training® (VHT) as a direct service model to strengthen the parent-child relationships that are essential for healthy family functioning.

We usually do not train individuals or families directly.

BUILDING A PROGRAM AT YOUR AGENCY

  1. Planning Meeting
    A senior SPIN
    ®
USA trainer meets with agency directors or program managers to design a training program that fits your programs and services.
  2. Introductory Training Course
Selected trainees (social workers, psychologists, family support staff) attend a three-day intro course.
  3. Monthly Training
Trainees immediately begin using the Basic SPIN cycle of taping, analysis and providing feedback/coaching to families in their homes. The training program provides each trainee with monthly, structured individual and group training/supervision.
  4. Certification
These sessions lead to Video Home Training certification following 18 months of regular practice and training/supervision.

Because trainees begin using the model with families immediately, social workers, programs and families experience the training benefits right away.

HOW THE SPIN VIDEO HOME TRAINER/FAMILY COACH USES THE BASIC SPIN CYCLE

Taping Make a short 10 minute video of the family at home in a pleasant or calm activity.
Analysis Analyze and edit the video to highlight the best interactions, to support the family’s own goals, and to plan feedback to support skill consolidation and development.
Feedback Show selected video to highlight and review strengths, motivate change; teach skills and set goals in detailed parent coaching sessions.
