Social workers and other family and parent-support professionals use SPIN Video Interaction Guidance® (SPIN®VIG) for Parent Coaching and Family Therapy as a direct service model to strengthen the parent-child relationships that are essential for healthy family functioning.
We usually do not train individuals or families directly.
BUILDING A PROGRAM AT YOUR AGENCY
Planning Meeting
A senior SPIN®USA trainer meets with agency directors or program managers to design a training program that fits your programs and services.
Introductory Training Course
Selected trainees (social workers, psychologists, family support staff) attend a three-day intro course.
Monthly Training
Trainees immediately begin using the Basic SPIN cycle of filming, analysis and providing coaching/therapy during collaborative review sessions with families in their homes. The training program provides each trainee with monthly, structured individual and group training/supervision.
Certification
These sessions lead to Video Interaction Guidance certification following 18 months of regular practice and training/supervision.
Because trainees begin using the model with families immediately, social workers, programs and families experience the training benefits right away.
HOW THE SPIN VIDEO INTERACTION GUIDER/FAMILY COACH USES THE BASIC SPIN CYCLE
Filming - Make a short 10 minute video of the family at home in a pleasant or calm activity.
Analysis - Analyze and edit the video to highlight the best interactions, to support the family’s own goals, and to plan collaborative review to support skill consolidation and development.
Collaborative Review - Show selected video to highlight and review strengths, motivate change; teach skills and set goals in detailed parent coaching sessions.
SPIN’S ADVANTAGES FOR HELPING PROFESSIONALS & THE FAMILIES THEY SERVE
